NGO linked to ZANU PF tries to blacklist global watchdog

A non-governmental organisation known to be aligned to ZANU PF has made moves to try and block entry into the country by two officials from Partnership Africa Canada (PAC), a global watchdog that recently exposed massive looting from the Marange diamond fields.

According to the independent Daily News newspaper, Resource Exploitation Watch (REW), which is supposed to monitor mining activities, petitioned the chief immigration officer to deny entry to two directors of PAC.

The Canadian group released a damning report on Zimbabwe’s diamond mining industry earlier this month, which revealed that at least $2 billion worth of diamond revenue had been looted from Marange.
The Daily News said REW wrote to the chief immigration officer, urging him to declare PAC directors Bernard Taylor and Allan Martin persona non grata. The report said the two “frequently visit Zimbabwe” to carry out research.

Tafadzwa Musarara, REW’s chairperson, is quoted as saying: “The two have been coming to Zimbabwe frequently to conduct their researches and their conduct is injurious to the national economic interest of Zimbabwe.”

The report, titled “Reap what you sow, greed and corruption in Zimbabwe: Marange diamonds fields”, was published on the first day of the Diamond Conference organised by the Mining ministry in Victoria Falls earlier this month. Musarara said this was “well calculated to rubbish the diamond conference”.

Musarara also accused Taylor and Martin of being funded by the US State Department and Canadian Foreign Ministry, saying they are bent on perpetuating “the hostile foreign policies of their funders”.

Oh Gosh no no Aah, foreigners are envious of Zimbabwe’s diamonds. They are so worked up with the country’s wealth at the Marange diamond mines as if the minerals are theirs. We are aware, they do not want the involvement the Chinese in helping Zimbabwe exploit its diamonds and yet they have declared an economic war against my country. So what do they want now when they have slapped my country with economic sanctions? Is it because they want to dictate terms on who should be allowed to exploit our diamonds? What a load of hypocrites!!!!

The inclusive government of Zimbabwe will never allow anyone suspected to have a sinister motive to enter the country for purposes of monitoring the exploitation of its minerals. This typically amounts to bullying of a small nation and quite frankly should be rejected outright as it does not serve our interests.

    • david taylor says:

Warvet – I would not worry about the foreigners. You should be worried about us fellow Zimbabweans – the people from whom ZANU-PF is looting resources. The diamond resources belong to the people of Zimbabwe, and not to ZANU-PF.

We are fed up with your cronies using our diamonds, pocketing the money for themselves, and then squandering the money on monuments to themselves (military colleges, conference centers, new centers of govt etc). These resources belong to the whole country.

      • Chimbwido Warvet says:

The bottom line is anyone who comes to Zimbabwe should do so on our terms not theirs. In any case, history has taught us that no foreigner from the west has come to Zimbabwe to give us a helping hand but to exploit us. From the days of slavery to colonialism the story has been the same, viz, forcing the African people at gunpoint to give them free labor, killing us if we did not comply with their wishes, selling us into slavery and exploiting us for their own good. The saddest thing is that after all these dreadful and horrendous activities against my people they still have convinced your minds and many others like Wilbert Mukori that you can not control your own minerals resources unless they have a say over its exploitation. As long as you do not believe you are capable of doing it yourselves, you will remain slaves of other nations for the rest of your existence, mate. They have done it before and there is nothing that will stop them if we allow them to exploit us again. Quite frankly, all wealth producing resources should be controlled by Zimbabweans and foreigners should only come to us on our terms not theirs. It should be on our terms or no terms at all.

        • david taylor says:

I don’t think most Zimbabweans are concerned whether the people investing in the country are green, brown, white or whatever. What we are concerned about is that we get a fair price for our resources, the foreign companies put money back into the country, the country and the people benefit, and the environment is not destroyed.

Instead what we have is a political party that has sold of our diamonds on the cheap to stay in power (and also to enrich themselves). It sounds to me as if the people of Zimbabwe are the losers here – and as far as I can see, the western governments (and companies) have had no role in this.

What fair price for our resources when our mineral resources have been plundered by the rich and powerful countries for centuries for peanuts. When you say western governments have had no role in this, what exactly do you mean. Who are you trying to hoodwink you f….g piece of shit? Read my latest article above and tell me what you think.

        • Common Sense says:

Once again missing the point (you’re getting worse in your blind Racism.)

Firstly, it shouldn’t take foreigners to have to report this robbery of resources by a select few pigs… it should have been done by local Ziumbabweans… but they have been cowed into submission generally. But the point is that it is independent and affects further investment in Zim… so carry on looting and the outside world will carry on NOT investing.

Secondly, but most importantly, you wax lyrical about the foreign masters taking over resources and deciding what happens… that would be OK if the resources were being mined and the funds put into the national fiscus, that’s the national interest…

But your head is so far buried in your residue valve that you conveniently keep ignoring that this money is not going to the country but the Military, the ZPF ministers and other corrupt players… what frickin’ use is that, it is 100% worse than foreigners taking it, you really are showing your true colours

          • Chimbwido Warvet says:

The first slave ship to reach the Americas was called ‘The
Good Jesus’ and was owned and controlled by Sir Richard Hawkins who by the 16th century standard was regarded as a very pious or virtuous man, if you like. Sir Hawkins is known to have reached the shores of Sierra Leone in West Africa in
1562 and in a very short space of time; he had gathered three hundred slaves in his possession. And when queried how he had managed to have so many blacks in his possession in such a short space of time, his answer was that he had acquired them, ‘partly by the sword and partly by other means’, which he does not tell the reader. Some reports suggest Sir Hawkins captured his slaves by plundering Portuguese ships that had earlier started the slave trade, but also through violence and subterfuge where he promised his African slaves free land and wealth in the new world. Hawkins is reported to have sold most of his slaves in what is now called the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean. As a devoutly religious man, Hawkins church services were held on board the slave ship twice a day. In his sermons he told them to suffer here on earth and enjoy the kingdom of heaven when they die – blessed are the meek and poor for they
shall inherit the kingdom of heaven, so he said. And when he finally went back to his home country with ships laden with ivory, hides and sugar, he was showered with praise for bringing the wealth to his country and then began slavery
at full throttle. This is a tragedy Africans without exception, have suffered for centuries and yet they are still slaves to this day. Today they are being sold into prostitution unknowingly and they end up in far away countries where
they are being exploited. The mineral wealth of the African continent without exception is still being exploited by the rich and powerful for a song and the list of their wealth that is being plundered by the rich and powerful countries is endless. And when the indigenous people of the African countries try to create wealth for themselves, it is called corruption. What corruption, you fucking idiots!!! People have to wake up and smell the coffee, you fu…g bastards who haven’t learnt a thing, from slavery, then came colonialism and now neo-colonialism. They still sing the song of the slave and colonial master. Muchadya izvozvo vana blaz nekupusa kwenyu.

The report highlighted State sponsored corruption and greed and the plight of the real victims of of all this criminal waste – the ordinary Zimbabweans. Only you can see is the colour of the skin of the individuals who wrote the reports and you attack!

You and the rest of the dictatorship have denied the ordinary people a meaningful say in the governance of the country all these years and all these year only you have decided who can enter the country. But I would like to tell you once again that you days of dictating to us all and denying us a meaningful voice are nearly over.

If this Copac draft is rejected then REGIME CHANGE will follow as night follows day! Hapana chisingaperi. The final curtain call for Mugabe and Zanu PF. Chisingaperi chinoshura! Watch this space, Chimbwido.

Oh Gosh, no, no Aah, you and your friends slapped the country with economic sanctions but little did you know the country would be graced with diamonds thought to be the greatest and biggest find the world has ever known. And today, you are so envious of Zimbabwe’s diamonds but you can not figure out how you could possibly come into the country to exploit the indigenous people of this country without making hopeless noises. You can make as much noise as you care to make mate but no foreigner will be allowed entry in Zimbabwe unless invited. We are now fully aware of your modus operandi you have employed to fool others for centuries which can no longer stand the test of time in this 21st century because it is now outdated or obsolete. You should now think of a better way of fooling others because we now fully know what stuff you are made of mate.
