Once again Zimbabweans are only told after the fact that President Jacob Zuma’s facilitation team was in the country to meet the GPA negotiators.
The state media reported Wednesday that the meeting took place the day before, with Zuma’s team in Zimbabwe to ‘get an update on the preparations of the constitutional referendum.’
The Herald quoted Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa saying: “The facilitation team came yesterday and they met Jomic chairpersons before we had a bilateral meeting with them. In our meeting they wanted to hear about the preparations for the referendum and the challenges we were facing as well as the aftermath.”
Chinamasa said they told the facilitation team that everything was going well.
But MDC negotiator Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi Mushonga said: “We did highlight to them last weeks’ problems of political violence and the issues of appointments where we did agree.”
Chinamasa confirmed Zuma’s team would be back in Zimbabwe next Tuesday, ahead of the referendum.
