Police have raided the residence of Thabani Mpofu, the Principal Director for Research and Development in Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s Office.
A highly placed source in the PM’s office told SW Radio Africa that Mpofu was taken from his home at 6am and that the police were raiding an MDC-T office along Bath Road in Belgravia, a day after Zimbabweans voted at a constitutional referendum.
It was not immediately clear why Mpofu had been arrested but the police were reportedly searching for wind-up radios at the MDC-T offices.
Meanwhile the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights issued an alert saying the rights lawyer Beatrice Mtetwa could be facing arrest after she reacted to police raids.
“ZLHR board member Beatrice Mtetwa is in distress, reportedly bundled into a police truck,” said the rights body on its Facebook page.
