"The current violence is dramatically more intensive and unrestrained (than the 2002 election). The level of brutality and callousness exhibited by the perpetrators is unprecedented." Zimbabwe Doctors for Human Rights.

Government says Presidential runoff to be held within 90 days
The regime in Harare announced on Wednesday that the country’s presidential election run-off would now take place within 90 days from the day the results were announced on May 2. In a special government gazette published on Wednesday, Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa simply extended the legal requirement of a runoff from 21 days to 90 days.

Death toll from violence continues to rise
Post election violence sponsored by the losing Zanu PF party has now claimed the lives of 32 people, according to the MDC. 8 more deaths were recorded in the last 72 hours. Many deaths are going unreported as state security agents block post mortems and force relatives to bury loved ones secretly. Two activists were killed in Gokwe Nembudziya after Zanu PF militia led by army Major Moyo attacked them Sunday evening.

Family of exiled MDC official Elliot Pfebve abducted
Elliot Pfebve, an MDC official who fled to the UK after the violent 2000 elections, is having to deal with the abduction of his parents by Zanu PF militia in Mt Darwin on Tuesday. Pfebve said he received a message from his brother Fireson Pfebve, who narrated how the Zanu PF mob stormed their Nyakatondo village around 8pm and tied up their 79-year old father and 76-year old mother using wire.

ZANU-PF militia blocking access to dead MDC activists
The number of opposition officials and supporters murdered in the ongoing state-sponsored violence is believed to be much higher because many deaths are going unreported. More proof of this came from the Centenary area of Mashonaland Central on Wednesday, when it was reported that armed ZANU-PF militia are blocking access to the bodies of 2 MDC activists. Our correspondent reported that armed militia attacked Dolphin House in Centenary, where many MDC polling agents and activists were living.
Gono seizes POSB shares
The governor of Zimbabwe’s Reserve Bank, Gideon Gono, has been showing his true colours recently. Just weeks after it was reported that Gono sits on the board of the Joint Operations Command (JOC) that is running the country and sponsoring the violence, it has been reported that he seized shares worth about Z$6.5 quadrillion, that were held on the stock market by the government-owned POSB bank.

Dear Family and Friends,
It's hard to believe that six weeks ago the MDC won a parliamentary majority and their leader Morgan Tsvangirai got more presidential votes than Mr Mugabe. It's even harder to believe that the parliamentary and presidential losers have managed to completely obfuscate the entire process and remain in positions of power and authority as if nothing had happened - as if we'd never had an election at all. Once again people are focussing on the violence being meted against Zimbabweans at home and abroad. Mhlanhlandlela describes what is happening at home as 'Gukurahundi revisited', and the monsters are showing their true colours. Rufu describes the bases that are being set up in schools countrywide to house war vets.

Democracy 101
Continuing in the series that takes a 'beginners' look at democracy and the democratic process, Mandisa chats to Professor Stan Mukasa about practical ways of strengthening civil society, the custodians and educators of democracy in any country, and how he thinks Zimbabwe's civil society is falling short in that role.

In the Hidden Story Tichaona speaks to two MDC MPs from Makoni district, who strongly suspect that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has been clandestinely supplying the regime with information, detailing the exact locations of people who voted for the Tsvangirai led MDC.
John Nyamande MP for Makoni Central and Pishai Muchauraya MP for Makoni South, said the leaked information has been used to flush out all known MDC activists in the rural areas.

This daily appeal from various individuals is aimed at the members of Zimbabwe's Defence Forces and Zanu PF supporters who are guilty of perpetrating the increasingly horrific acts of violence, intimidation and torture against the ordinary people of Zimbabwe. Today's appeal is from Alois Phiri Mbawara from Free Zim Youth
