Pro-democracy movement forms Save Zimbabwe Campaign

Progressive forces in Zimbabwe agreed at a meeting on Thursday to form a broad alliance called The Save Zimbabwe Campaign in the hope of engaging and dealing with the national crisis together.
The Bulawayo-based church group the Christian Alliance organised the meeting, which saw the major stakeholders in the pro-democracy group ratifying the agreement.

The Save Zimbabwe Campaign consists of groupings from the two MDC factions, the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, National Constitutional Assembly and Zimbabwe National Students Union among other political parties and civic groups.

Speaking to Newsreel, Pastor Lucky Moyo from the Christian Alliance said the Save Zimbabwe Campaign is aimed at encouraging dialogue and cooperation on pertinent issues. “It is a way of trying to avoid those serious frustrations that were creeping in because each one had a similar objective but you found that each one was a lonely voice,” he said.

There have been on-going concerns about the hostilities between the two MDC factions. Clashes recently broke out in Matabeleland North provincial, just days after it was reported that the two rival MDC camps had signed a non-aggression pact.

But observers remain hopeful that with the church leading this initiative to ‘Save Zimbabwe’ we might be seeing the real beginning of all the pro-democracy groups finally working together.
