Shakespeare Maya suspended by Mutambara MDC

Opposition official Shakespeare Maya has been suspended by the Chitungwiza Provincial Management Committee of the Mutambara led MDC. He is being accused of being a Central Intelligence Organisation Operative (CIO) and causing serious divisions in the province, among other issues.
A suspension letter signed by Goodrich Chimbaira – the party’s provincial chairperson for Chitungwiza – said Maya had been suspended with immediate effect, pending his appearance before a disciplinary hearing.
Chimbaira said the opposition official had failed to execute party duties diligently. Some of the reasons he cited in the letter to Maya were;
· “Your level of power hunger is a cause for concern for several Party members in the province.”
· “The Party strongly suspects that you are strongly linked to the enemies of the Party especially ZANU PF to divide the people of Chitungwiza by engaging in clandestine activities typical of CIO at your Ruwa home industry.”
· “Approaching the President of the Party requesting for an appointment to a senior position in the Party without consulting the Provincial Executive.”
Maya is the former President of the National Alliance for Good Governance (NAGG). He joined the then main MDC in 2004 and was a parliamentary candidate for the opposition for the Mhondoro constituency in the March 2005 general elections. A year later Maya stood as a candidate for the MDC pro-senate and lost in the Chitungwiza senate elections.
We were not able to get a comment from Shakespeare Maya.
