Economically the week hasn’t started off too well for Zimbabweans with the state airline announcing that fares had doubled, while the cost of a new Zimbabwe passport had gone up thirty fold.
Air Zimbabwe announced to travel agents Monday that a round trip to London now costs Z$804 million. And according to a notice at the Registrar General’s Office in Harare, a passport for an adult now costs Z$5 million, up from Z$150 000. A passport for a child under the age of 12 has gone up from Z$75,000 to Z$2,5 million.

Prices for everything continue to increase dramatically as the government fails to find any solution to the economic crisis it has created. Experts say nothing will tame inflation until the broader political issues have been resolved. Over the weekend restaurant and bar prices also doubled with many reportedly accepting American dollars only.
