Zanu PF central committee member and former Zvishavane
MP, Pearson Mbalekwa's resignation has been confirmed. On Friday
we reported how the former intelligence official was planning to
submit his resignation letter to the party citing the government's
operation 'clean up' as inhumane. He handed the letter to Zanu PF
National Chairman, John Nkomo's office on Friday. Nkomo however
says he has not seen the letter because he was not in the office
on that day.
Mbalekwa says he is 'a man of principle and could
not be seen to be part of the whole exercise which has caused untold
suffering to people whom we claim to represent.' He also criticized
the general direction of governance in the country which he says
has impoverished a lot of people.
In a highly critical letter he says, "In the
circumstances, I find myself unable to continue my membership in
Zanu PF. It is very clear to me that when any other rational person
takes a close look at what has been happening in Zanu PF, government
and the country over the last eight months, Zanu PF, as a political
party, is no longer with the people. Therefore, I have as of today
left Zanu PF, to be with the people."
