Chitungwiza mayor Misheck Shoko has blasted the Local Government minister for meddling in the affairs of his council, describing his actions as contemptuous.
The usually reserved elected MDC Mayor said he was still in charge and running council affairs, contrary to reports that government has taken over the town council.
Describing accusations levelled against him by Chombo as unfortunate, the fiery Shoko hit back at the minister, saying he is contemptuous of his administration and the people of Chitungwiza.
‘To say the least Chombo is being provocative so that I react and do something to constitute an offence against him. He’s just contemptuous of my administration, that’s all,’ said the Mayor.
Chombo accused Shoko of not being on top of the situation in the town and added that he spends most of his time at Harvest House (MDC Headquarters).
Shoko said Chombo was out of touch with what was happening in the town. He further accused the minister of working closely with individuals who have stolen money from the council.
He said the government’s move to put Chitungwiza District Administrator, Godfrey Tanyanyiwa to help in the running of the council as a non-event.
‘I’m the elected Mayor of Chitungwiza, Tanyanyiwa is an appointee of the government so he will interact with junior officers in council.
