Education

Lecturers and teachers in Zimbabwe are the least paid educationists in the SADC region and this inevitably affects the standard of education in the country.

The standard of education in the country has dropped to an all time low since independence. Gift Mabugu, a former Lecturer in Bulawayo who is now based in South Africa said many lecturers and teachers have also been forced to leave the country because of political harassment.

Lecturers from around the country are currently on strike demanding better remuneration and improved working conditions. Their plight has been worsened by a negative attitude they get from the government.

‘If you look at the SADC region, we are the least underpaid and yet our qualifications are one of the best on the African contient,’ said Mabugu.
