MDC on Senate

The MDC will let the people decide whether or not the party should contest the Senatorial poll, party spokesman Paul Themba-Nyathi said on Thursday.

As a democratic party, he said, the MDC will convene a meeting where that decision will be taken by the relevant structures after consultations with all its members.

The national executive and the national council have the mandate to pass resolutions on behalf of all party structures. The party has however made it clear that it is against the reintroduction of the senate, after it was abolished in 1987.

‘We are not happy with the senate, and we have made our position clear on that matter,’ said Paul Themba-Nyathi.
