The consignment of donated food that was sent 7 weeks
ago by South Africas Council of Churches to help victims of
operation Murambatsvina is finally in the hands of distributors
in Zimbabwe. It has taken almost a month and a half and much effort
to get this vital shipment of blankets and food to the desperate
displaced families just across the border, all because officials
in Zimbabwe were deliberately slow in processing the paperwork needed
to clear it at the border.
Densen Mafinyane, secretary general of The Zimbabwe
Council of Churches, told us he visited the offices of Christian
Care on Monday, and saw the 2 trucks which were preparing to leave
for a warehouse in Bindura. Mafinyane said he had no doubt Christian
Care would distribute the food without any further problems.
