MDC spokesman Nelson Chamisa has said the congress set for this weekend is the last platform for members who defected from the party to use as a springboard to come back to the fold.

Invitation letters have been sent out to almost all members who split from the Tsvangirai camp, but analysts believe none of them will turn up for the congress.

Asked what this would mean Chamisa said; ‘Their absence is going to be an indictment on their part because they would have shown the whole world that they are not interested in the struggle for a new Zimbabwe. If they don’t turn up, the train will go full steam ahead. The congress juggernaut has already started rolling.’

On amendments to the party constitution the national youth chairman said it was necessary to revisit some sections because they had caused a lot of problems in the past. He said by amending the constitution it was in the hope that they will be enhancing and enriching democratic institutions within the party.

‘What we are simply doing is to make sure that we don’t create institutions out of individuals. We already have institutions and systems that are working in the party,’ said Chamisa.
