On Thursday a regional grouping of civic society, labour organisations, student movements, health and developmental agencies came together in Harare at a conference under the banner of the Southern African Social Forum. They say their aim is to bring together powerful forces against the domination of greed and power. The conference will feature radical discussions aimed at developing an action plan on many issues from democracy to HIV/Aids.
Among the regional organisations represented are COSATU, ZCTU, International Socialists Organisation and student and youth movements in Southern Africa, like the Uhuru Youth Camp.
Youth activist Farai Sam Monro said workshops, which end on Saturday, will be about freedom discussions, action plans, regional solidarity and resistance festivals.
MDC chairperson for the Women’s Assembly said a workshop with regional labour groups spoke openly about the controversial issue of the senate, with many supporting leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s decision to boycott.
