Government's new housing project meant to benefit victims of operation murambatsvina has been embroiled in controversy after revelations that members of the armed forces are the ones benefiting.

About a hundred houses have been constructed under the housing project, dubbed operation garikai/hlalani kahle in cowdary park.

Themba Nkosi our correspondent in Bulawayo said allegations have surfaced in the city that most of the houses have been allocated to members of Robert Mugabe's armed services.

The housing project has also been criticized for its lack of transparency and there is already a war of words between government and the city council over the allocation of the houses.

Themba Nkosi said the project has been dogged by allegations of corruption and favouritism as most of those benefiting are from the ruling Zanu (PF)'s support base.
