Fuel Increase

By Staff Writer

20 June 2006

There has been a massive increase in the price of fuel, which has more than doubled.

Long winding queues have resurfaced and prices for diesel and petrol have gone up from between Z$206 000 and Z$280 000 to between Z$400 000 and Z$600 000. That’s the official rate – on the black market it will be much higher.

The fuel shortage is being felt in most towns and cities across Zimbabwe with no information available as to when deliveries might be expected.

Apart from adding to the massive inflationary spiral most analysts agree that it will be the economy which will be the undoing of Mugabe and Zanu PF. Where the opposition may have failed, the economy may win.
