MDC MP for Chitungwiza Fidelis Mhashu has said the failed attempt by Zanu (PF) to dislodge the town Mayor from his post is part of a grand strategy by the regime to control all urban councils by 2008. Over the last month, Zanu (PF) has laid siege on Chitungwiza mayor Misheck Shoko who at one time was forced into hiding following rowdy riots against him by Zanu (PF) supporters. Mhashu believes all the rhetoric surrounding the critical state of the town, is part of a plan to sabotage the good name of the mayor in an attempt to dislodge him from his post. Zanu (PF) ministers are making so much noise about nothing in Chitungwiza. This is also part of their political gimmick and strategy to confuse people towards an election,’ said Mhashu. He said since the MDC is boycotting the senate elections part of the strategy will fail to win the hearts and minds of the people of Chitungwiza. He gave an example were government has refused to bail out the council over a long period of time, only to spring to its aid, financially close to an election. |
