MDC youth chairperson says Tsvangirai suspension a political joke

MDC National Youth Chairman Nelson Chamisa has described the suspension of the party’s President Morgan Tsvangirai as yet another political joke of the senatorial circus. The opposition leader was suspended by Vice President Gibson Sibanda this past weekend for allegedly violating his party’s constitution and misrepresenting the decision made by the National Council over the senatorial polls among other issues.
Chamisa accused Sibanda who heads the pro-senate camp of plotting a coup and that the disciplinary committee hearing was flawed. The outspoken youth leader alleges the Vice President sat by himself with Deputy Secretary General Chimanikire on the disciplinary committee hearing this past weekend. He said it’s also unknown how Chimanikire found his way into the disciplinary committee as he was allegedly not nominated by the National Council as is the norm. “They sat as individuals and decided to suspend the president which is quite ridiculous and outrageous.”
He said Tsvangirai is not taking the suspension seriously and it was business as usual for him at the party headquarters at Harvest House in Harare. “According to us it’s a political coup because we are told the Vice President is the one who wants to be the immediate beneficiary of his decision to suspend the president. The youth chairman said any change of leadership will be done at the congress and added, “Sibanda should wait for the congress and campaign for the position rather than try to come through the window.”
