The Media Institute of Southern Africa held its annual general meeting
last week in Windoek, Namibia, where representatives from its eleven
country chapters met to discuss press freedom issues in the region.
Participants at the AGM examined the state of media
ethics and professional standards in the region and devised a strategy
for media to adopt self regulatory guidelines and structures.
Daniel Molokela, the newly appointed media projects
co-ordinator for the SADC national editors' forum said Zimbabwe
was in the spotlight during the meeting because of the harsh laws
that have been enacted by Parliament to try and silence journalists.
