Threats to the electorate……as Zimbabwe votes.
Bikita…
Police have denied Murdock Chivasa and the 9 activists who were arrested yesterday, 28 March 2008 in Bikita West access to food and legal assistance until after the elections.
Norton…
At 2 polling stations in Norton namely, Pinpar and Norton 1 Primary School, senatorial candidates for MDC Mutambara and Tsvangirai were both put under the Tsvangirai faction ballot paper. Voters raised concern over the matter as they were confused on which candidate to choose.
Highfields…
Some citizens have been turned away from polling stations as they were disallowed from voting although they have been voting for the past 28 years. Mr. Sajeni from Highfields residential suburb was denied his right to vote under claims that he is an alien though he has participated in the past elections and his name still appears on the voter’s roll.
Tafara….
It is reported that some voters were turned away after their names were not found on the voters’ roll at a polling station at Tafara Hall. An elderly lady, Jessica Madeko was denied her right to vote after failure to find her name on the voters’ roll. Mrs Madeko has been a registered voter since 1980 and participated in the June 2000 parliamentary elections, March 2002 presidential election and the 2005 parliamentary election.
