Zimbabwe’s oldest person dies

It’s been reported that Zimbabwes oldest person, Kuku Ndou, died at the weekend, aged 121. Her family did not indicate the cause of death but said she had complained of pain shortly before she died.

Ndou lived in the border town of Beitbridge near South Africa. She has left behind five children, more than 100 grandchildren and even more great grand children. She was originally from South Africa and emigrated to Zimbabwe around 1880.
It is unlikely that Kuku Ndou could officially confirm her great age of 121, due to the lack of records, but if she had been able to do so it would have made her the oldest person in the world. A woman of 128 is still awaiting news to see if the Guinness book of records accept her claim.
The world’s officially eldest person, Maria Esther de Capovilla, died in her native Ecuador, Monday, so almost at the same time as Kuku Ndou. She was 116.
An American woman, Elizabeth Bolden of Memphis, Tennessee, is now the oldest known person alive, according to Guinness World Records. She is also 116.
