Recent victims of violence

Petra Tambudza of Rusape
Beaten by Zanu PF youth in Rusape on 9/07/08. Miscarried from her injuries. Assailants unknown to her.

Kenny Machekete, aged 66, of Chipatsura School, Marange
Kenny’s wife was seen celebrating MDC victory in the March 29 elections. In addition, they did not attend the rallies organised by the Zanu PF chefs before the run off. During the week before the run off sixty people came to his home.

Kenny recognised the following; Cone Mhuruyengwe, Farai Tetiwa, someone with surname of Chitakatira, who was the boss of the group aged about thirty years and a known, active Zanu PF supporter in the area. They took Kenny to their base at Chipatsura School.

They beat him and took a shovel with burning ashes out of the fire and put his feet on them. When the ashes cooled they repeated the process. They then warned him that they would kill him if he did not return to the base every day to report to show that he was now a Zanu PF supporter.

The group returned to his home after they had tortured him and destroyed his one acre of tomato seedlings which was his livelihood. No food was stolen but others in his area had food stolen.

Memory Mufambi of Buhera Central Bitira
More than thirty Zanu PF youths attacked her. She was beaten on the back and buttocks and raped repeatedly by many of then but cannot recall exactly how many but raped at least twenty times. All her food stores were stolen. She lost one goat, five chickens, mealie meal, groceries and ground nuts.
Can recall names as follows;
Pepukai Magera; Trymore Pinukai; Tavaira Gavazi; Trymore Magera; Chipo Muyapwa; Sorobi Musa; Nowell Musa.
Memory is severely traumatised and remained speechless and stared into space for several days after admission. She is still in a state of shock and whispers and converses with great difficulty. Is a devout Christian and is most responsive when praying. Her children are with her mother.
She is in a lot of physical pain. In my opinion she needs proper counselling by professionals in this area, possible out of Zimbabwe. Memory is being visited by Hospice counsellors and is improving.
Clemance Nongai of Nyanyadzi
On June 22, 2008, more than one hundred youths, none of which were known to him, came to his home at one am to burn down the houses. The residents of a group of six houses defended themselves against these thugs who ran away. They returned the next evening, at seven pm, with uniformed army details and looted food from the shops and houses.

They took Clemance to their base near Nyanyadzi police station. He was held for three days with no food and severely beaten. He was released the Saturday after the run off and told to go and be friends now because fighting was finished as Mugabe had won.
