Angry parishioners yesterday disrupted a church

Kunonga's critic
gets death threat
"Please note," the letter reads, "that your church
executive you are in (sic) should resign not later than today or you
will face death"
It is reported that a vehicle came up the driveway of her Highlands
home and an envelope was tossed over the gate. By the time the gardener
picked up the envelope the vehicle had already taken off at high speed.

Election of Zim bishop
was fixed
Harare - Anglican supporters of Zimbabwe's ruling Zanu-PF party were
on Thursday accused of breaking church canonic law to block the election
as the new Bishop of Mashonaland of a prominent white critic of Robert
Mugabe's human rights record. While independent of the Church of England,
the denomination - with an estimated 40 000 active members - belongs
to the worldwide "Lambeth Communion" and risks suspension
or expulsion if political irregularities in its affairs are proven.

Outrage
at bishop's praise for Mugabe
The Anglican Bishop of Harare caused outrage yesterday when he delivered
a speech strongly supportive of President Robert Mugabe's regime.
Bishop Norbert Kunonga accused critics of Zimbabwe's human rights
record of being motivated by self-interest. He claimed that Western
countries were using black "puppets" to manipulate Africa.

Kunonga asks
court to bar parishioners
Anglican Bishop Nolbert Kunonga wants the
leadership and choir of the Cathedral of St Mary and All Saints in
Harare banned from attending services and visiting church buildings
in the Harare diocese. He said they had allegedly disrupted church
services by joining other parishioners in accusing him of abusing
his position by preaching pro-Zanu PF sermons.

travel ban hailed by Anglicans
Church leaders and parishioners of the Anglican church have come out
in full support of the travel ban imposed by the United States on
Harare's Anglican bishop, Nolbert Kunonga. The church leaders said
by his partisan stance, Kunonga had stepped away from his role as
a church leader.

Anglican bishop grabs white farm in
Zimbabwe
AN ANGLICAN bishop has seized a previously
white-owned farm for himself and his family in one of Zimbabwes
prime agricultural districts.
In the process, Nolbert Kunonga, the Bishop of Harare and a close
associate of President Robert Mugabe, has evicted more than 50 black
workers and their families to make way for his own staff.

a fresh wave of controversy after ordering the immediate transfer
of three priests, a move being fiercely resisted by Anglicans in the
affected parishes. Members of the church have accused Kunonga of being

Bishop held hostage

was yesterday briefly held hostage by parishioners of St Philips
Anglican Church in Harares New Tafara suburb, who accused him
of snubbing them and protecting church leaders who are alleged to

Row erupts as Zimbabwe
church official censures pro-Mugabe bishop
The Anglican bishop of Harare, Norbert Kunonga, is increasingly coming
into public confrontation with the church's Zimbabwean hierarchy over
his controversial support for President Robert Mugabe.
A long-simmering row burst into the open again on Sunday when prominent
lawyer and Anglican chancellor of the Harare diocese Bob Stumbles
publicly accused Kunonga of acting "contrary to the laws of the
church" and of falsely accusing members of his congregation of
plotting his assassination.

Anglicans resist Kunongas bid to
consolidate powers
THE chancellor of the Anglican Churchs Harare diocese, Robert
Stumbles, has urged the churchs congregation to block attempts
by Bishop Nolbert Kunonga to amend the diocesan Acts at the next
Synod meeting scheduled for 5 September.
Stumbles, who is a renowned lawyer, says the proposed amendments
would create a dictatorship within the church structures.
The letter comes at a time when relations between Kunonga and the
majority of Anglican parishioners have been severely strained.
