MDC99 mourns General Solomon Mujuru

16 AUGUST 2011

When the word started to spread in the early morning of today that General Solomon Mujuru had passed on, the grip of shock could not escape the MDC99 and the whole nation.

What surprises all are the circumstances under which he passed on, raising a lot of questions and curiosity on the national scale. The MDC99 is deeply concerned by the continuation of a culture whereby more and more deaths of key individuals occur under mysterious circumstances.

To that end, we call for a thorough probe into the death of one of Zimbabwe’s truly gallant sons, General Mujuru.

A hero of our independence, who was of moderate intellect, Mujuru spurred a lot of people through his military genius and shrewdness into realising their freedom and dreams.

It is unfortunate that he has passed on without giving Zimbabweans an opportunity to hear his side of the story over the GUKURAHUNDI massacres, one of the darkest spots remaining on the conscience of our nation since attainment of independence.

The Gukurahundi massacres occurred when he was the commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.
MDC99 mourns with the Mujuru family during this sad period in their lives.
