M.K.D to Make Tribalism a Punishable Crime

09 May 2011

Mavambo.Kusile.Dawn (M.K.D), the Party of Choice, realizing that tribalism is working at cross purposes with the country’s peace, unity and development, is coming up with a number of measures to kill the vice. In a statement, released by the Party last week exposing tribalism in MDC-T, some readers dismissed the Party, for revealing that M.K.D is working hard to make Zimbabwe a very hostile environment for tribalism.

M.K.D Legal Department, recently revealed to the Party’s Communications department that from the minute the Party is given the mandate to lead this country, its primary role will be to spearhead a genuine national healing and reconciliation process. The process will have a specific legal, resource and time framework.

The Party is also looking at ways to have malpractices such as tribalism grouped under other serious offences like treason, rape, murder or cattle rustling. Alternatively, tribalism could have a sentence of not less than twelve (12) months jail term without the option of a fine, if it is committed by an ordinary citizen, charged and proven guilty in a competent court of law.

In the event that it is committed by a politician, charged and found guilty in a competent court of law, in addition to the sentence proposed for ordinary citizens, the Politician will be barred from running for public office for a period not less than ten (10) years.

M.K.D is deeply concerned by the increasing number of tribalism cases. There is a real need to send an unmistaken message that tribalism is not tolerable in our society. Needless to mention, though that the current environment prevailing in our country is actually an incentive to the vice.

Several people have been maimed, raped, killed, turned against each other and sidelined from meaningfully participating in national developmental programmes owing to tribalism. Tribalism is not healthy for any society which seriously wants development.

National development can only be achieved if there is unity of purpose and harmony among all tribes. We all need to be pulling in the same direction.

The Party’s Legal department is looking at creating a legal technicality which will usher in rotating Presidency between the country’s Northern and Southern regions. Although the proposals are still work in progress, we are aiming at a position whereby a Head of State will serve for a maximum of two (2), five (5) year terms. The Legal technicality should make it automatic through the country’s Supreme Law, that the next President will come from the opposite region of his/her predecessor. The contest for Presidency will be strictly confined to political parties from the region with the turn to provide the Head of State at the given time, and voters from the whole country will elect a leader from candidates fit to be chosen.

We do not believe in the outdated mentality that our counterparts from the Southern region should be confined to deputizing those from the Northern region. The winds of real change are blowing fast. It is time we embrace change and admit that all Zimbabweans regardless of tribe or sex are equally capable and entitled to lead. Let us all rededicate our efforts to creating an environment which avails equal chance to all. The obsession that other tribes be condemned to perennial deputies should end. Our brothers and sisters from the Southern region have borne the brunt of tribalism for a long time and it is time we reciprocate their noble gesture of patience.

In M.K.D, we are guided by values of democracy, diversity, tolerance, patriotism, national participation and representation. We envision a stable, peaceful, united, progressive and developed Zimbabwe where rights and freedom of all citizens are respected and protected. Together we will bring about real change.

Let’s Get Zimbabwe Working Again. KaOne!
