7th May 2008.
Eight years ago today Alan Dunn was brutally beaten to death at his back door when he went to answer it on a Sunday afternoon, while his brave wife and three wonderful daughters then aged from 11 to 17 hid and heard. He was a brilliant farmer, husband and father, and a really GOOD man who was prepared to stand up for what he believed in - a leader and an example to all.
In the few weeks before Alan we lost David Stevens and Martin Olds, and in the weeks and months that followed we lost many more good men, black and white, from our now devastated farming community and we remember all of them.
Alan's murderers were never caught - no attempt was made to catch them. They are known, and the police were complicit. But we also know that was the case in David and Martin's murders too.
I would be pleased if JAG would help us to remember these sad anniversaries.
We're all over the world now and Alan, David and Martin deserve to be remembered, and honoured, and a little prayer said for them and those they left behind. Our lives are so busy wherever we are that we need and might appreciate a little reminder sometimes - a pause for thought and a little remembrance.
Alan, we will certainly remember you dear friend.
