Zimbabwe’s coalition or inclusive government put towards the betterment of the country by selling “Diamonds” one feels most obliged at the foresight and vision. Tsvangirai spirit as well is excellent and can be faulted. I feel though that what Zimbabwe lacks is that political will to sincerely eliminate Zimbabwe’s burdens. The frankest and obvious reply is that there has to be collective will to permit leadership circulation. Zimbabwe was born out of a protracted struggle and represented the collective desire to build a new civilisation of laws and a framework governing the relationship between citizens and the state.
Mugabe has been Zanu Pf leader and held power from 1980 till the formation of the GNU in 2009. As a result he still wields authority and influence on most of the government organs and institutions .Tsvangirai is trying to argue with every member of MDC-T that he is the best and no one is better than him. Enough is enough of this he should resign and let someone else run the affairs of people’s party rather than assign oneself the role of a monarch. In contemporary sub-Saharan Africa it should be worrying that democracy is increasingly being subverted through power-sharing deals and governments of national unity.
People are skeptical of Diamond sale which Tsvangirai supported the ruling party of three decades ago who blamed the world for the problems created by a dictator who has destroyed our country and become wealthy at the same time. Tsvangirai is so confident that the diamond sale will deliver a better life for the majority. It is reported that 79% of the profit on Diamonds Sale is going to cover ‘production costs’ while the balance will go to the government through the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation (ZMDC) which is controlled by Zanu Pf and its investment partners.
My only hope is that Tsvangirai fully understood what he has enter into in teams of “Blood Diamonds”. If Zanu PF manages to get hold of this funds or to sell there own illegally diamonds on this transitional period to resuscitate itself only to emerge more vicious and rotten, the blame shall for good reasons go Tsvangirai. Even more tragic is the fact that a golden opportunity to transform Zimbabwe for the first time into a free society was missed. Nine years of struggle by the MDC came to nought. The buck stops with Tsvangirai. In a most perverse way he became Mugabe's saviour at a moment of near death for the despot.
We should remain vigilant as a people. We should learn to distinguish between genuine patriots who love Zimbabwe, Politician who are looking at feathering there own nest and those with selfish motives in whatever they do. We need to take control of our own destiny now and we should stand behind the principles of our own Party constitution so that dictators can be reduced. Tsvangirai’s team of office is due just as same as Mugabe’s. These characters will always change their colors like a chameleon.
